Japan Trip

In May 2025, our Kamahele Class had the amazing opportunity to travel to Japan. Coordinated by our Japanese teacher, Ms. Akari, the goal was to help Roots students become globally aware and locally connected citizens of Earth by assisting them in experiencing a different culture and being immersed in a different language. Over 10 days, we visited Tokyo, Yamanashi, and Kagoshima. We had so many unforgettable experiences, including camping at the base of Mt. Fuji, exploring ice caves, making mochi, and meeting our Japanese pen pals. At our last stop in Kagoshima, we stayed at a renovated school that now operates as an inn, and enjoyed a wonderful festival, organized by the local county council. We hope to continue our Japan trips every other year so that each student gets a chance to enjoy this remarkable experience before their time at Roots is through.
