Performing Arts & Enrichment

At Roots School, we offer a robust performing arts program. All grades participate in a weekly performing arts class, where students build self-confidence, engage their creativity and learn communication skills that will last a lifetime. Our Kamahele class prepares two performances per year and our Huluhulu and Liko classes each prepare one performance per year.  Our Performing Arts Specialist, Genie Calagna, has over 20 years of teaching experience with an emphasis on arts integration and social emotional awareness. 

In addition to performing arts, we also offer Japanese language classes and Cultural Connections. Our Cultural Connections program aims to integrate cultural art and values into everyday unit studies and curriculum. We place a stronger emphasis on Hawaiian studies, learning through singing, chanting, hula, language development, storytelling and visual arts. Each class explores a different unit that is directly tied to content standards. Cultural Connections is one of the many ways we unify students and strengthen their understanding of the world and its diverse peoples.
